The cover is soft as other reviewers have said (and it didn't have that yucky vinyl smell like most other mattress protectors have, which is a plus) but the plastic lining under the terrycloth is VERY thin. So's the terry part. I don't care about the terry fabric on top of it being kinda thin; I do care very much that the plastic lining is so flimsy that after the cat jumped on the bed ONE time there were holes in the cover. :( I can't return it because of the damage from the cat's claws, but I guess I am going to have to do what I should have done in the first place and go to a medical supply store for a heavy duty rubberized mattress pad (like the ones in a baby crib that you put under the sheets but bigger.)
